College Admissions Essay: Trumpet Player

Superior Essays
Growing up, one of my most important goals in life has been to see the world from a different perspective. I have always wanted to pursue a career in aviation or aeronautical engineering. Once I identified my true passions, I set out to make my goals a reality. Up until third grade, my family and I lived directly next to a small town airport. Once a week, we would all go down to the park adjacent to the terminal for a night of music and family time. Now that I look back, I realize that my character has been developed from the things that I kept in the back of my mind. At every one of these concerts, a new group of musicians would be introduced. Out of every one of these groups, a trumpet player was the most prevalent instrument. Along with …show more content…
I strive to carry out tasks to my full abilities. By maintaining patience, discipline and being fully devoted to all that I have to do to improve my future, I have increased my self-confidence and solidified my character. Honesty, loyalty, and sincerity are among the many traits that I make an every-day effort to emulate. I have also been looking for adventure. In order to attain adventure, I have had to visualize what this looks like. I have had to surpass many of the earlier challenges of my life. In my earlier school years, I was bullied. These bullies would terrorize me by means of verbal and physical confrontation. I felt as if there was no meaning in life to achieve my goals. How could I get anything done if others were determining my future? Although I let these actions determine who I was and what I did at an earlier age, I never let my tormenters determine my true character. In fact, as my mother reminded me recently, I was selected as the student in the school with the best Christian attitude during the year when I felt most terrorized. To remedy this situation, I transferred to another school. After moving schools, I decided to start anew. From that point on, I decided that I would follow my true passions, and not allow the opinions of others determine who I was. Nobody would hold me down in the dirt anymore. I wouldn’t become a target for others to abuse. My new outlook of life changed the content of my character. I viewed every day as a new opportunity, rather than just another number on the calendar. I began my involvement in music and desire for aeronautical wit in order to broaden my horizons. My interests in the fine arts as well as my aspirations for aeronautical advancement changed my character by boosting my ability to overcome life’s challenges. I was a completely transformed

A few transformations and developments about me over summer or maybe even the last time I thought about how much I have changed. One social transformation I went through would be a change of views on how I see the world, second would be my interest and hobbies, doing and liking things that I wouldn’t particularly thought I would even like or do. Lastly one thing that hasn’t really changed would be the love I have for my dearest mother.…

Throughout my life there has been a greater emphasis on music and artistic talents rather than on physical attributes. I am not athletically inclined in the slightest, but music comes naturally and a love for it grew from my first and only piano teacher. She threw me my most secure life line when I was seven years old. My parents bought a heavy, ancient and well-used upright piano from one of our neighbors many years ago. It was almost mesmerizing to have a piano at my house and not just my grandparents.…

After reading Jeannette Walls’ Glass Castle, I realize that she and I have a lot in common. From her parents arguing to her being bullied at school to her father dying, she went through a lot of situations that resemble some of the less known and serious problems that I had while I was about the same age. Jeannette had a tough life while growing up. However, even though I had similar issues, I lived and still live a relatively sheltered life. I, like her, simply viewed everything that happened as normal and didn’t realize that it was abnormal until I got into fifth or sixth grade.…

Much adversity and vicissitude throughout my life has broken me down and slowed progress—forcing action to resolve many disputes and reverse path. Early in life, my parents split up; leaving me with my mother. beginning school, a learning disability forced much struggle within the battle of learning to read, but I persevered through diligence to be an A/B honor roll student throughout grades 1-5. Depression and anxiety paired with severe bullying drastically dropped my attendance and grades as I struggled with the unaccustomed habitat I was forced into. Consequently, I went about a large stint in life with little desire to live—believing I was alone.…

Something in me has always known that I was not typical. In this generation, the typical person would graduate high school and then go on to pursue a two to four year college degree. Up until a few months ago, that was what I thought I was going to do. I thought that I was going to go to a private college somewhere, major in law, come out to be a defense attorney, and spend my days and nights hauled up in a courtroom somewhere. I believed that that was going to be my reality not because I wanted it to be but because I thought it had to be.…

Ever since I can remember I have been preoccupied with music. As a child I remember obsessing over my dad's CD collection and spending lengthy afternoons just listening to them with him. My home was never silent there was always music playing in the living room, the sounds of drums being banged on or guitar amps booming from the basement. If you ask my mother she might tell you this was bothersome but if you ask me it was perfect.…

I was the baby whose presence everyone dreaded. I could not talk, or at least not in a language anyone could understand. So, of course, I resorted to being loud and obnoxious. Dribbling a basketball and elevating over bars is what pleasingly consumes my time. There were six prolonged months where that all was taken away from me.…

The heat from the stage lights, the watchful gazes of the audience, and the sweat dripping off of our faces as we struggle to remember our lines, these sensations of being on stage are what caused the performing arts to become not only an activity, but also a passion and an unexpected source of personal growth. Through my experiences in drama and music I have been able to discover my own meaning of fulfillment and define who the person behind my appearance truly is. My passion in the performing arts started when I was a young child first learning to play the violin. Picking up the violin at the age of 6, I became stuck on one of the most basic songs for almost a whole year. At that time no one believed that I could play the violin, my teacher thought that I was too hyperactive and even my mom attempted to convince me to quit.…

Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what lessons did you learn? Failure is not unusual but having the courage to get back up and fight for what I believe in is indeed unusual. Much earlier in my studies, I have surmounted tremendous hardship which caused me to drop out of college. I have migrated to America in the early 2000s with my family seeking a better life because my country did not have much to offer.…
