Pivotal Moment Of My Life Narrative

Decent Essays
Something in me has always known that I was not typical. In this generation, the typical person would graduate high school and then go on to pursue a two to four year college degree. Up until a few months ago, that was what I thought I was going to do. I thought that I was going to go to a private college somewhere, major in law, come out to be a defense attorney, and spend my days and nights hauled up in a courtroom somewhere. I believed that that was going to be my reality not because I wanted it to be but because I thought it had to be. All it took was one pivotal moment for me to realize that I could take control of my life and that my story was not pre-designed for me. The moment that I became aware of this, was the moment when everything

Have you ever stopped caring so much that whatever happens, happens? I remember the time I had gotten in trouble by my mom because I had walked home from school. It was a gloomy day from it being so cloudy and cold. I was talked into walking home during school by friends whom, at the time didn't care about school as much as I did, cared nothing of school. I didn’t like it, but then again I started not to care either.…

Free from all the extra attention and scrutiny from teachers, who did all they could to mold the freshman class into proper "Vincentians", I felt as though I could finally relax and have a regular high school career. It was a slow paced year where pressures such as ACT and SAT preparation, applying for colleges, and deciding your career path seemed so far away. As long as I remember, I have been on a never ending journey of discovering my talents and finding a career that would be most suitable for me to contribute to society. I was convinced that If just lived life the way I was supposed to and fulfilled my responsibilities, that it all would just come to me one day. Because of my assumption of how much time I had to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, I found myself putting these important thoughts on a hiatus.…

From the day I moved into 113 Ben Street, till the day I moved out before heading to college, my street never surprised me. At the beginning of my street is where the corner of Fern Street starts and is where the Dominicans started establishing their territory. The more a person strolled or drove down the street, the more people can see how separated everyone was. I was located in the middle which was where most of the diversity was. Ecuadoreans, Guatemalans, Puerto Ricans, Portuguese, and more was the central heart of Ben Street.…

I have a lot of things going on in my life so trying to target one moment in my life was difficult to narrow down. I wanted to share a moment that influenced my life so much that it hovered over all the things. My thesis is “Hearing that I would never conceive a child, left me to doubt the positive news that I was finally pregnant.” When I was younger I was given a heartbreaking result to a test that I was never going to conceive a child. There was no amount of processes to change the result or cure me.…

For many years I have been very indecisive about my direction in life; I often dreamed of residing in faraway places, living the unrealistic rich lifestyle and for everything I’ve ever wanted to run completely the way I desired it to without the difficulty of overcoming any obstacles. I come from a family who has bigger and brighter dreams for the children of future generations. Family has always been one of the most important values in my life. Leaving them behind to focus on myself seemed very selfish and stressed me out. My junior year of high school I had a very vague idea of what I wanted to do with my life.…

What defines an individual? Unfortunately, many argue that it is a traumatic experience, or an experience that completely changed their life. While I have had exceptionally harrowing experiences, such as my father being seized from my home in handcuffs when I was seven years old after witnessing him abuse my mother for years, I do not believe that any of these experiences “define” me. These experiences certainly helped shape who I am today and altered my view on the world, however, what truly characterizes me is my day-to-day actions. Due to this, instead of writing about a distressing experience in my life, I will construct a narrative that details a typical day through my eyes.…

Throughout my high school days I had always seen myself as the girl that would go into college as soon as I graduated. That was how I was raised to think that right as you graduate the only proper thing to do is to enroll in college and spent the next four years of my life working hard to start my life. Sounds enticing right?. As my young nieve self I didn’t know any better, and simply listened to the words of my father “Work hard now so you don’t have to later”.…

“It Was That Moment” 4 hours in the cramped, crummy, car that smells of leather, popcorn, and…Cheez-It's, definitely Cheez-Its. We had been driving a bunch during the trip, but this was the longest road, the road home. Car sickness and headaches had been one of my enemies on the long car rides, so I was giving my brain a break from the artificial radiation of the tv and computer screen and from looking to the side to play cards with my brother which was usually the cause of my discomfort. I watched the trees, buildings, and other cars go by in slow motion while I cogitated all the fond memories about my vacation that swarmed and swam in my mind a flock of little sparrows flying in their curious patterns in the sky eating their supper… The emerald green waters of the Virgin River, rushing through Zion Canyon.…
