When we first started dating I wanted Vincent to think I was as cool and sophisticated as I thought he was. That lasted about two months. 'Till he caught me dancing to “Hakuna Matata” in my favorite TMNT underwear, complete with matching socks. When he sat on my bed he landed on my teddy bear and the picture book I had been reading when the song came on. And of course, to add the humiliation, I had sewn a strap around her neck so I could attach my pacifier so it wouldn 't get lost.
With a huge grin he held up the brown and white teddy bear with a blue bowtie. “Mind introducing us.” I lowered my head. I was sure he was laughing at me.
“That 's Millie.” I muttered tersely. “Give her back.”
He handed her out to me solemnly, but not without a slight grin. I snatched her back and clutched her to my chest like a Shield. “Want to talk about it?” The grin had faded and he looked at me adoringly empathetic, and oddly, determined. Which just confused me. I shook my head.
I was so embarrassed I kicked him out then and couldn 't look at him for a week. To Vincent 's credit he didn 't push. He just slipped me note in class the next day that said, “when you 're ready come to my apt.”
