Joseph said they were from when he was at war his wife, Mary would send him letters and boxes of all sort. He asked Sarah to take them to him, and to read him one every day. She read him one everyday for 4 months and 9 weeks. The next day she had an interview to work at a fashion empire in New York. She had told him that, but not lane. She left and Lane had a big rodeo that day. And on her way she got acal from the hospital, thinking it was from Joseph, but it was for Lane. She rushed from the airport straight to the hospital. He had knocked of his bull. The doctor requested him not to ride any more, but he didn’t listen. Everyone begged and begged him to stop riding, so Lane and Sarah broke up. And she went and redid her interview. She got the job and loved it. She still went back to read to Joseph, but only once a week. A few months later,

“Y’all come back again real soon” reached my ears as I jumped into the car to travel back to my home in Florida. For the last several days, my Aunt Sarah had hosted me in her charming South Carolina home. As the house grew smaller and smaller in my rearview mirror, I recollected her welcoming, generous spirit. Each morning, my aunt would awake before dusk to put together a delicious breakfast of egg casserole, cheese grits, country ham, homemade biscuits with lingonberry jam and a side of ambrosia. Later, each night she would escort me to my well-appointed bedroom, where I could snuggle into a soft, down-filled comforter on my lovely, antique bed.…

When asked what makes a story good, Cisneros has answered that stories should make you laugh or cry. And if it is really good, she says, the story should make you do both. In her stories, she works at changing the ways her readers look at their worlds, helping them to imagine better ways to live. In these ways, her work is related to that of major local color writers of the nineteenth century, such as Sarah Orne Jewett. Cisneros had periodically written poems and stories while growing up, but it was the frustrations she encountered at the Writer's Workshop that inspired Cisneros' realization that her experiences as a Latina woman were unique and outside the realm of dominant American culture.…
