“A long, long, long time ago…” well I guess not too long ago (sorry mom!) Anyways think May 16, 1964, in a teeny tiny town your geography teacher even hasn't heard of also known as Brunswick, Nebraska, population 254. My mom was born; population 255. Ann Marie Todd is my mom. Like you, my mom is, well my mom, but also one of my greatest inspirations, and my friend. Five feet and two inches while they sound like the height of your sixth grade sister, but this height makes Ann very approachable and not threatening. My mom’s eyes are bright and happy, a unique shade of blue, warm and soft like an autumn's day, not piercing cold like ice. Her hair is yellow like the sand we dug our toes through, in Mexico. No matter what your situation is just one look at Ann’s smile will bring a feeling that'll just make you grin from the inside out. …show more content…
Make the wrong left? “Don't turn around.” my mom would say. You might find something you never knew that was down that turn. At an amusement park? Don't forget a ticket for my mom! She’ll ride any coaster that you ride maybe even more! My mom is there when I least expect her to be, but always in the right time. When you're needing a friend she’ll be there, when you're needing a laugh she'll give to you. Ann is more determined than a mule, more adventurous than a pirate, compassionate and warm hearted like a

The sun’s burning rays beat down on us as we dug through the layers of Egyptian sand and rock. We had only begun the excavation the previous day and had already uncovered one-fifth of the ancient pyramid. I, as well as a team of high-ranking archaeologists, had accompanied Sarah Parcak in an expedition to unearth a lost Egyptian pyramid. “How’s your section of the chamber coming along, Erica? We’ve just uncovered a new sarcophagus,” remarked Sarah as she passed by, carrying a large coffin.…

On 01/21/16 I contacted Ashley Herring at her residence at 3320 W. Justice Road in reference to a domestic battery call. Ms. Herring said on this date her live-in-boyfriend of 13 years, Brian Mott, battered her because there were no cigarettes in the residence. Ms. Herring said Mr. Mott yelled and cursed at her, took her HP Pavilion laptop computer from her and threw it on the ground destroying it, and then pushing her off of their front porch. Ms. Herring said shortly after Mr. Mott pushed her from their porch he pushed her into their bed and kneed her in her right leg causing redness and swelling around her knee. Ms. Herring said Mr. Mott then punched and slapped her numerous times on her arms and shoulders before leaving the residence…

I really appreciate Cathy Small’s appreciation and respect for the Tongan people and culture. Our family like so many immigrants have a great story and journey to America. My relationship with Cathy I would say is professional in nature. As an Anthropologist she tries to remain objective. Her approach to her study takes Humanistic approach to anthropology, as Ivan Brady suggests, “must be creative, eager to search everywhere and to account for the greatest array of happenings, and willing to reach out to alternate narrative forms.…

Today’s goal was to introduce me to the site, the people that work in my department, the resources available to workers, and current projects. My volunteer supervisor, Geraldine Baptist, showed me around the hospital, specifically where I would normally sign in and sign out, the cafeteria, and the Occupational/Physical therapy outpatient department. Upon arrival at the OT/PT department, Ms. Baptist introduced me to the front desk secretary, Mauracell, a sweet, openhearted young lady. Mauracell warm welcoming made me extremely comfortable, and all anxiety was put to ease. Mauracell showed me around the office and work center, then introduced me to each person present and gave me a description of what types of things they work on.…

In the discombobulation of day to day life, all types of people are going to try to knock you down. This hardship was experienced personally by Brenda Roza as she realized that “there may not be that person next to you that's going to speak up for you”. There is no reason for strangers being malicious, to try to knock other people down when they’re not even known to you. Regardless, it is imperative that you are able to defend yourself- just as Brenda Roza did. Having been told throughout her entire life that she couldn’t do certain things, Brenda thought that that being a successful person might be beyond reach to her - impossible.…

With rain ferociously pounding the roof of our vehicle and sharp bolts of lightning illuminating the sky, we bounced along as the primitive roads struggled to maintain their shape. The six-hour drive was not much of a warm welcome to the country—weaving through the severely impoverished urban areas near the airport, then tossing its passengers about in a tropical thunderstorm. While our van climbed to the Haitian central plateau and several of my team member’s stomachs surged with motion sickness, mine fluttered in anticipation of the coming weeks. Upon arrival at the United Christians International compound in the Caiman area of Haiti, I instantly remembered the overwhelming peace I felt two years prior.…
