I interviewed Andrea Marshall for my Leader Interview Project. Andrea Marshall served as the Head Attorney for Monmouth County in New Jersey. She handled all civil and legal work for the county in a professional manner. Marshall was in charge of thirty-five attorneys that helped to represent Monmouth County in different facets of law. A few months ago, she was sworn in to be a Superior Court Judge in Monmouth County. But for the sake of the interview, she answered my questions in regards to her leadership as the Head Attorney for Monmouth County. Because there were thirty-five lawyers that Andrea was in charge of, it was challenging to keep tabs on all of them. So, Andrea provided structure in which she held several meetings everyday to have group discussions about cases. By doing this, individuals were “…given orders to carry out a specific mission” (Northouse, p. 172). An agenda was given out and allowed everyone to know exactly what he or she was responsible for completing. Andrea did a fantastic job in building cohesiveness. Whenever a group of lawyers was stuck working late, Andrea would stay to help them. After seeing this, other lawyers, who were not working on the case and were not required to remain, stayed late to help. This formed a team structure that Andrea is incredibly proud of. This high level of unity increased participation and helped facilitate better interaction among the lawyers (Northouse, p. 175). Ideas could be shared and the cases were completed more efficiently and built with better legal defense than before. Although there are different types of law, the personal injury lawyers aided the tax lawyers. The type of law that one practices did not divide the office; instead, they worked together in order to benefit the county as a whole. Andrea set the tone by building unity and implementing
