Personal Narrative: Adapting To A High School Student

Register to read the introduction… I kept the same habits from high school, where I wouldn't ask for help even if I needed it, and tried to do things entirely on my own. Since that wasn't working, and the end of the semester nearing, I did something I never did back in high school: I sought tutor help. The tutor I met with, Cecilia, not only helped me craft near perfect lab reports that were needed to narrowly pass the class, she also inspired me to be a better person. It turns out, which I later found out, that university tutors are not required to help with lab reports. Thus, it occurred to me that Cecilia helped me out of her own whim. I realized all the hours we put in together was just for the sake of helping me out. I grabbed hold of her philosophy and applied it to my own life the following summer by looking for opportunities to tutor students.

Through my experience with a Cecilia, I had been able to take what I consider goes unnoticed about me towards a more evident light. I finally found a place where I fit, tutoring, where I used my knowledge for the benefit of others. Whether it was helping a Wellstone International High School student with prime factorization by conversing in a mix of Somali and English, or explaining how a slope works to one of my fellow high school peers, I did my best to make
