Performance Appraisals Book Review

Performance appraisals have played a prominent role in my employment up until this point; to this date, I have personally had five total as an individual at my employer, Crew Carwash. Each appraisal not only helped me improve as a worker, but also as a person, due to my strengths, weakness’s and tendencies all being identified by my managers. I found that many of the traits I inhibited at my workplace I also inhibited outside of the workplace. The appraisals have taken place everything six months and are an annual discussion I look forward to. When researching performance appraisals, I ran across a somewhat surprising article in Forbes, it was revealed to me that I, along with my company, was in the minority that found performance appraisals …show more content…
What Pontecraft does is explain how to get across these qualities in a more efficient way, as a substitute for the appraisals, overtime. He takes the concepts in the book and almost persuasively details how the same methods are important but can be better used in a way differently than the traditional performance appraisal. In the way Pontecraft sort of thinks, expectations for employees aren’t dismissed, but sort of transmitted from boss to employee differently. PLMG is an acronym for “Performance Learning Management Goals”. The way Mr. Baldwin explained the method is that each year his boss will set a goal, then each of the employees set an individual goal to help reach it. Mid-year, employees will asses how they have reached there goals set from themselves in the form of an electronic self appraisal, which will then be discussed between with a department manager.
