Options in Today’s Economy
The National Football League (NFL) is a professional American football league that ranks number one of the four major professional sports leagues in the United States that specializes in entertainment. According to Forbes, “2013 revenues for the National Football League was somewhere just north of $9 billion”, which means the league remains the most lucrative in the world (“how the NFL can reach $25 billion”, 2013, para. 1). Revenue flows from many areas to include ticket sales, television ratings i.e. Monday Night Football, memorabilia, as well as food and beverages sold during the games. The NFL is a collection of 32 teams divided equally between the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC) each with a North, South, East and West Division.

The external environment consists of a variety of factors outside a company’s doors that it typically does not have much control over. Key Factors in the NFL 's external environment are political, social, and legal forces that can influence the success of the NFL and its teams. For instance, the latest rounds of domestic violence inside the NFL has led to a social media backlash that is putting very high pressure on the NFL and its commission.
