NFL Domestic Abuse Over the last several years, the issue of domestic violence inside the National Football League (NFL) has been increasingly brought to the forefront. This is because there is a number of high profile cases that outlined the blatant abuse star players were involved with. As a result, result, society is demanding the league to discipline these individuals in order to make an example of them. To fully understand what is occurring requires carefully examining the issues / history, its significance, the stakeholders, public / private interests and the two year proposal Together, these elements will illustrate the scope of the problem and the most effective avenues for the NFL to utilize moving forward. The Issue and History The issue of domestic violence in the NFL dates back to the early 1900s. This is when pro football was in its infancy and many of the players were exposed to added levels of violence on their field. They were expected to follow social norms in society. For the NFL, this meant that some of their star players were the focus of criminal investigations. OJ Simpson was the classic example of this. In the 1970s, he set a variety of rushing records and was one of the most recognizable and beloved sports figures on the planet. During and after his career, there were a number of reports of abuse in his first marriage. However, these issues were quickly covered up in order to protect Simpson’s reputation and public persona.
