The NFL states that they provide benefits: in joint replacement, long-term care insurance, life insurance programs, prescriptions benefits, neurological evaluations and spine treatment programs, assisted living partnerships, and a Medicare program. The NFL claims that their partnership they have with the NFLPA has spent over a billion dollars on all of these benefits. The NFL is looking into whether previous injuries and lifestyle of the litigants have anything to do with the injuries. If the NFL had lost that case it could have end up paying over $500,000 for each individual player, which could end up in over $10 billion total. Because the NFL brings in an average of 9 billion dollars a year this would have be crippling to the league’s profit (Feeley).
From an ethical perspective, the NFL has a social responsibility to take care of their employees and hold an acceptable standard of living.
