Obesity : Fast Food Restaurants Essay

When I went to Albania a couple years ago, I noticed that a majority of the people were skinnier, lots of people were walking around and there was no fast food restaurants. Here in America a majority of the people I see are overweight, always driving instead of walking, and fast food restaurants everywhere I look. In America about two- thirds of the adults are obese which is higher than most countries. A lot of money is also put into obesity, so if we fix the problem, we could spend more money on more important things. Some ways to fix obesity are closing fast food restaurants, putting more bike trails and bike rentals around cities and more. Obesity needs to be resolved because people can get diseases.
America is one of the top ten countries with the most obese population, about two-thirds of the adults in America are overweight or obese and 17 percent of children and teens. Being obese means that you have too much body weight, which is different from being overweight, which means weighing too much.Since the 1980’s childhood obesity has tripled. Obesity causes 300,000 premature deaths and about $117 billion were attributed to the overweight and obese people. It adds 9.1% to the nation’s personal health spending, which is about $222 billion. Adults in America eat about 500-800 more calories per day than needed which is causing them to gain a pound to a pound and a half of weight per week which would lead them to getting obese.
