Nursing practice is known as a combination of scientific knowledge and compassionate care. Moreover, nursing practice has changed and developed into a dynamic profession to create a better health care environment. It is always essential to combine the art and science aspects in nursing profession to meet patient outcomes. The art and science of nursing are described in different ways through literature. According to Polos (2014), the science of nursing focuses on scientific knowledge and performing skills which are essential for a competent nurse. For example, in the science aspect, a nurse needs to have knowledge of pathophysiology, biochemistry, psychosocial and nursing skills. The scientific knowledge helps nurses to understand the signs and the symptoms of diseases to provide proper treatments and appropriate nursing interventions. On the other hand, the art of nursing plays an important role in nursing practice. Polos (2014) further says the art of nursing is concerned with caring, compassion, patient-centered care, and therapeutic communication delivery for patients and their families. Through nursing schools and working with patients, the author has been learning and applying the art and science of nursing effectively. As a nurse working in a hospital setting, the author applies scientific knowledge of disease processes, medications, and skills during nursing practice. The author knows how to make and carry out a nursing care plan accurately for each situation. Moreover, this author is patient to understand patient’s needs to provide better care for the patients.
