Staff who work under autocratic leaders usually heavily rely on them and may not know what to do in the leaders absence. Adopting autocratic leadership style for a long time may be more damaging than beneficial. However, the positive side of this style is that it works perfectly in emergencies and critical situations where there is a little or no time for discussions. It is similar to transformational style of managing. Democratic leaders encourages open communication and staff participation in decisions. The interaction between staff and leader is open, friendly and trusting (Moiden, 2002). Staff and a leader work as a team. Democratic leaders try to develop the group sense of responsibility by encouraging people to share their ideas, and then combining all available information into the best possible decision. That allows followers to develop their own leadership skills, become independent and reduce leaders stress. (Guiltinate, 2013). However with all benefits to democratic leadership style Guiltinate, 2013 states that democratic leaders have less control on their team members as they provide guidance to their followers instead of issuing orders.
