Personal Narrative: My Freshman Level Of Nursing

The freshman level is the beginning of developing leadership skills for the delivery of safe and effective care. According to Lillis, Lynn, and Taylor (2015), this level of leadership is described as the ability to direct or motivate a person or group to achieve a set of goals (pg. 507). This happens by encouraging others to be their best selves as they work as whole. In the freshman level, the student nurse is committing to excellence, gaining problem solving skills which includes clear vision, passion, trustworthiness, integrity, respectfulness, empathy, a caring attitude, and the responsibility to enhance personal growth.
Attending the 115 nursing course, I can say that it has helped shaped and expand my personal knowledge, skills, and attitude. It has shaped my personal knowledge by changing the way I think about giving care. It has also expanded my clinical knowledge on body functions, client-centered care, and

It allowed me to be a leader and responsible for a patient. The experience allowed me to empower my fellow classmates when they would express concern when dealing with their patient. The experience also encouraged professionalism and advocacy activities. Tests actually inspired leadership because I would contact friends and organize times to meet and study for the test as well. It also taught me how to be more competent and engaged in the nursing practice, think independently, delegate and take charge appropriately, advocate for patient and community, and practicing to my full potential.
In my clinical setting, I observed a democratic leadership style. A democratic leadership style encourages open communication and staff participation in decisions. Workers are given responsibility, accountability, and feedback regarding their performance. Relationships are important in this style of leadership to improve the quality of care, rather than making mistakes as an individual team
