Attending the 115 nursing course, I can say that it has helped shaped and expand my personal knowledge, skills, and attitude. It allowed me to be a leader and responsible for a patient. The experience allowed me to empower my fellow classmates when they would express concern when dealing with their patient. The experience also encouraged professionalism and advocacy activities. Tests actually inspired leadership because I would contact friends and organize times to meet and study for the test as well. It also taught me how to be more competent and engaged in the nursing practice, think independently, delegate and take charge appropriately, advocate for patient and community, and practicing to my full potential.
In my clinical setting, I observed a democratic leadership style. A democratic leadership style encourages open communication and staff participation in decisions. Workers are given responsibility, accountability, and feedback regarding their performance. Relationships are important in this style of leadership to improve the quality of care, rather than making mistakes as an individual team
