Nordstrom, a rapidly growing American retailer has plans to develop four new department stores in Canada within the next three years. It is a posh specialty retailer offering designer clothing, shoes, and accessories for men, women, and children. Nordstrom started out in 1901 as a small shoe store in Seattle named after the founder John W. Nordstrom, and since then, it has grown into a major specialty retailer known around the world that operates in 38 states with 116 full-line stores, 167 Nordstrom Rack locations, and 2 Jeffrey boutiques in the United States and one currently open in Canada. They also have an online presence that serves customers in 96 countries including Canada, through their main sites Nordstrom.com

Saks most expensive accessory, Saks Fifth Avenue (SFA) has about 40 department stores in over 20 states. Saks is considered as one of the top companies in fashion that sells cosmetics, jewellery, apparel, and shoes designed by top designers such as Burberry, Chanel, Prada, and the company also owns its own Saks’ private label merchandise. Saks also has a supply chain for its thrifty customers, which is known as the Saks Off 5th and it has over 70 Off 5th stores across the US. The takeover is a positive sign for Saks since they can now open in Canada, with the retail growing in the country. With the company already existing in some parts of Middle East and South America as well. The company is in the progress of gaining a market share in different markets in order to expand its geographic reach and eventually increase its customer base across different countries and markets. With Nordstrom, seeking to expand its online shopping e-tail for its customers by purchasing HauteLook e-tailer in 2011 for around $180 million. This takeover will advantageous for the company it also offers apparel, accessories, and as well as home décor for online shoppers across Canada and the US.
