Nike Mission Statement

The brand that I chose to write about is Nike, an American multinational corporation that designs, develops, markets, and manufactures footwear, apparel, equipment, accessories and services worldwide. They excel in brand awareness and innovation. Nikes mission statement is “To bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world” and that is exactly what they do. They are a staple brand in every sport worldwide. They have the top athletes endorse them, including LeBron James, Tiger Woods, and Cristiano Ronaldo. What better way to increase awareness, then to have the top athletes’ world wide endorse your brand. That helps inspire every person to go out and be an athlete.

The name “Nike” comes from an ancient Greek goddess of victory. The Nike swoosh symbol was created by a student named Carolyn Davidson and was given stock in the company in return. That stock is currently worth more than $640,000. The slogan “Just Do It” was inspired by a serial killer named Gary Gilmore, who right before he was executed said, “lets do it” (businessinsider.com). Nike was initially operated for Asics; the Japanese shoemaker however officially became Nike Inc. in 1971 and opened its fist store in Santa Monica, California in the year of 1966. Other major companies in this industry include Addis, Reebok, and Under Armour. These sports apparel is worn during any physical exercise activity with the hopes to provide the customer comfort and style. They consist of advanced fabrics, which help remove the wearer’s perspiration. According to Forbes, “The global sports apparel market was worth $135 billion in 2012 (forbes.com). This industry is forecasted to grow up to 5% in the next five years. There is an increase in demand for high-tech fabrics that provide comfort. The improvement of countries with developing economies has also increased the demand for sports apparel. Worldwide developing countries are experiencing an increase in income and standard of living. This is causing more people to have money to spend on this type of apparel, which will only continue to increase.
