Here at the University of Charleston we all strive to meet a mission. The mission at the University of Charleston is to educate each student for a life of productive work, enlightened living, and community involvement is reflected in your life plan. On my very first visit at the University for SOAR, I learned what the mission statement was. When I learned it, I was not sure how it was going to affect me, or play a role during my education. I was kind of surprised to hear the mission statement, and I was not really sure what it meant. As time went on I started to learn what the mission statement was, what it meant, how it was helping me, and what I needed to fulfill the mission and live it. As my time here at the University of Charleston comes to an end, I am starting to get asked of the mission statement is reflected in my life plans. After going through three and a half years at the University, I believe that I can say the University’s mission statement has played a role in my life plan.
The mission statement has three parts; productive work, enlightened living, and community involvement. All three of these are reflected in my life plan. Productive work plays a big role in my life now and my future life plan. This is because it is an important skill that I need in the future. As a teacher I have to learn how to be productive.
