Is your job stressful? Do you feel exhausted at the end of the day? Well, I can attest that both of these areas apply to me. Working in the medical field can be extremely stressful and challenging. Subsequently leading to burnout and inadequate work performance. Health problems such as high blood pressure, anxiety, unhappiness, and interruptions of sleep may emerge (Henderson, 2015). The readings in this course helped me establish ways to manage stress and conflict. Throughout this paper, I shall indicate information I acquired this semester that will help me succeed in both my personal and professional life.

I have a tendency to interrupt someone when they are speaking or react to situations that upset me. I assume things because, I did not hear everything correctly. However, the readings have taught me to be a good listener. To accomplish this I first have to pay attention and find out the problem. So, I will pause, take a breath, and reflect on the situation at hand prior to speaking. I will not talk out of turn, and the room shall be clear of all distractions. I shall encourage individuals to speak and provide feedback (Lamberton & Minor, 2014). By listening properly, my personal and professional life will be enhanced, because I am allowing the other person to speak freely about their feelings and issues. I shall incorporate collaboration into my problem solving techniques. The individuals involved in a disagreement work together to achieve a resolution that agrees with both parties. This is a win-win solution for everyone (Prause & Mujatba, 2015). Sometimes I utilize the compromise strategy where both parties are halfway satisfied with the outcomes. These strategies will help my professional life because when problems are resolved, they do not escalate any further. One time at work, the staff got together in a meeting of the minds and convinced our manager to up the amount of bladder retention to 600 prior to doing an intermittent catheter procedure. This is a win for the staff and the patient. Compromise occurs daily in my marriage; therefore it is a balance of give and take. For example, determining the amount of money to be spent on family at Christmas is an area of debate at my house. I have a tendency to spoil my children; however, my husband is very budget oriented.
