In today’s society, being a teenage single mother is often frowned upon. My mother has proved society and all others doubting her, wrong. People really don’t understand the struggle, and how tough it is for a single parent mother to care for her child. My father passed away when I was only five years old, so he wasn’t around to help my mother out as I got older. Although, it is a tough experience growing up in a single parent household, it is not as bad as people make it out to be. Yes, my mother’s income was the only one coming, but things can still be maintained. I feel like my mother did a great job raising me and preparing me for success. There will be many issues during this experience but these obstacles can be overcome, it just takes time. My mother is the definition of a successful independent black woman and she has had a major impact and influence on my life. People often frown upon young mothers, but my mother has overcome the struggles as a young parent and proved all critics wrong. My mother was born in Akron, Ohio just like me. She grew up on the west side of Akron with an older brother. Her parents were foster parents so they often had all types of kids in and out their household. My mother attended Buchtel High School. During her senior year is when she met my father, and they of course had me.
