My Microteaching Lesson

Improved Essays
I found that the microteaching lesson was a great way to gain experience in following our lesson plans and getting important feedback that can help further our development as an educator. After my microteaching lesson and upon reflecting, I have found that there are several areas that I need to work on. I need to work on creating written instructions to planned activities, help students create evidence based arguments, and create supports for students with IEPS, 504s, and ELL students. Some aspects I think I did well in are helping students to make connections with each other and engaging students by moving around and creating models. In trying to promote a positive learning environment, I was able to challenge students to engage in learning

Two of the Effective Educator Goals that I have chosen to provide rationale on are, Manages & Motivates and Reflects on Practice. I feel very strongly that most students, when given a positive, encouraging, and nurturing learning environment, can motivate themselves to be socially interactive and engaged in their own education. When students see your positive energy, feel your desire to learn, and know they are an asset to your classroom; most often will put forth the effort to be an active participant. I have had differentiated environments to meet the needs of certain individuals to promote a supportive and meaningful environment that was conducive to learning.…

Teaching students to speak up and to participate without worry. To see kids playing but only when told and asking questions that were not from their imagination, but from what they seem to believe that the teachers would accept. With finally showing proof that teachers would not want to encourage, for they themselves are being pressured to only teach what they are mainly paid to do. This is important for the reason to be because the system needs to pull back and understand the students thoughts and not subjugated them to only be empty bodies who’s main purpose is to follow orders and never question their instructor. Curiosity is the wick in the candle of learning, however, it may never be lit if the flame was never there to begin…

students being viewed equally and encourage uniqueness. This will ensure that any student who recently joins the classroom has a smooth transition. Removing the stressors of society away from the classroom in terms of diversity will create a culture where students will feel safe and will be willing to learn; as a result enthusiasm amongst students will be created affecting their learning positively. Danielson supports this effective teaching strategy; “teachers who are successful in creating a culture for learning know that students are, by their nature, intellectually curious, and that one of the many challenges of teaching is to direct the students' natural energy toward the content of the curriculum. They also know that students derive great satisfaction, and a sense of genuine…

From these studies, the place of talk in the classroom remained a major focus of interest for teachers and academics. Subsequent work by the Nuffield Foundation in the 1970’s explored the effect of various classroom lay-outs on the quality of talk; but it was The Bullock Report (1975) which effectively gave official authorisation to oracy, capturing the importance of language in all its forms and its single minded response that ‘… by its very nature a lesson is a verbal encounter through which the teacher draws information from the class, elaborates and generalises it, and produces a synthesis’ (141). However, creating a system whereby pupils became active participants in their learning coupled with the transformation in teaching styles in…

Over the course of this term, I have learned several helpful techniques to incorporate into tutoring sessions. I’ve also learned about problems that can arise when tutoring and how to avoid making poor decisions. One of the best practices that I have learned is how to systematically address different problems a student is having with homework, by breaking assignments down into a more accessible format. When a student comes into a tutoring session and is overwhelmed with a homework assignment, helping them formulate an outline of what to complete with their assignment, helps set them up for success and lets them realize that they are capable of working through difficult problems. For instance, if a student brings in a poem and says that they have to write an essay on the poem, but they haven’t read it yet; sit with them and analyze the poem, help them come up with a general idea of what they think the poem is about, then help them start drafting out ideas for a paper.…

Individual reflection by Tay Huiwen Emerlyn “A positive classroom culture is characterized by a non-threatening atmosphere where students feel that they are able to speak, offer ideas and take risks without fear of reprisal or mockery” by Caitrin Blake (2015) from Concordia University. This definition of positive classroom culture strikes a chord with me, as I believe that without a positive and healthy environment, where student feel physically and emotionally safe, it is difficult to effectively teach any content. Its importance is again highlighted in the Singapore Teaching Practice (STP) Framework; positive classroom culture is part of the 4 teaching processes in the STP. In session 2, we learned that establishing interaction and rapport,…

I outlined to the students that we were in the learning community together and all students were coming along side in the journey with me. This helped to engage students because by feeling like they were apart from the community they felt they were contributing to something meaningful. Another strategy I used was that I asked students how they as a community wanted to complete activities by giving students options. By providing students with options and letting them choose how they want to complete the activity, they felt like they have a choice in their individual community. This will lead to more positive student engagement.…

Micro-teaching Report My microteaching experience was very beneficial to me, in the sense that it developed my confidence as well as focused on areas that need improvement. It was an interesting training opportunity to benefit from. Also, microteaching was a fun experience that we as trainee teachers to teach our peers a micro lesson, which ranged from 5 to 10 minutes.
