Everyone has a dream or an idea of what a future career will entail for them. Some people may want to be a professional dancer, an astronaut or become a doctor. My dream is to change the lives of newborn babies every day. On a national average 3.6 million babies are lost every year. For me, becoming a neonatal nurse, I can help decrease this number every year and improve the lives of others. When you are a neonatal nurse you are able to experience things that normal jobs don’t see on a daily basis. Neonatal Nurse Katie Jones states “The best part about my job would be I can give these little babies the best the start at life, seeing the baby progress more and more each day, and I can make a small difference in someone’s life each and every day.” I want to be part of making a difference and caring for others.
In order to become a neonatal nurse there are some things needed to accomplish. Neonatal nurses need to complete a certain number of hours observing and hands on experience in a hospital setting, obtain a nursing license, become a registered nurse, and acquire a four year Bachelor of Science Nursing Degree, and finally complete certification in neonatal resuscitation or experience neonatal intensive care nursing. In order to become a neonatal nurse practitioner the following must be accomplished, meet all the other previous requirements plus a Master of Science in Nursing Degree.
