My First Utrgv Athletic Event Essay

As someone who was hired specifically for the new University of Texas- Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), I have no pre-existing loyalties to either the University of Texas- Pan American (UTPA), or the University of Texas- Brownsville (UTB). Since attending my first UTRGV athletic event I have noticed that there are plenty of acknowledgements of UTPA 's athletic history, accomplishments, and records as they are considered part of the official athletics history of UTRGV, even though the institution is brand new as of Sept 1, 2015. What is incredibly bothersome, and in my mind disrespectful, is the absolute disregard that has occurred with the history of UTB. If we are one institution, why do we only acknowledge one institution 's history? I know President Bailey has much bigger things to worry about, but his rhetoric is that both main UTRGV campuses are important, and yet he hasn 't made the simple mandate to Chris King, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics that he consider UTB 's history part of our history.
