It seems like I know a lot about it compared to what I knew before the class. I now know how many different types of community health nurses that there are. I probably would not be comfortable if I were put into a community health nursing job right now, but only because I still lack many skills and a lot of knowledge that I will receive in the year to come. After having more experience I think that I will be most comfortable in a community health nursing position. I see myself working in the community, not a hospital. It seems to me, from my limited experience, that community health nursing is a very fulfilling field. When I had clinical at a pediatric office, a school nurse office, an obstetrics/gynecologic office, and with visiting nurses I felt a lot more comfortable than I did during my medical/surgical clinical. I feel more comfortable when there is less pressure and less stress, which is how I view community health nursing. There seems to me to be less pressure than in the hospital, where it seems so much can go wrong so fast. I like being able to communicate with my patient and take my time with them. I like learning about them and how they are affected by disease or disability and I feel I will have more opportunity to do that with community health nursing than hospital nursing. I want to be able to provide the best care possible to my patients which means I should not be rushed. Seeing the nurses working in the hospital, it seemed that they were always rushing to get everything done in time. I am much more comfortable when I am not being rushed.
