Coming from a Mexican family and being a female is a bit difficult. It is difficult when you have family that is waiting for you to “grow up” to become a mother. Some family members belief this is still a norm for a female to get married, have children, and stay home to take care of the family. Just because some of the women in my family became mothers at a young age, I did not want to become a mother, at least not yet. On (Not) Getting By in America by Barbara Ehrenreich, she wrote “Happily, though, my fears turn out to be entirely unwarranted: during a month of poverty and toil, no one recognizes my face or my name, which goes unnoticed and for the most part unuttered.…

After being surprised about my pregnancy, last week, I had the harsh reality of being pregnant woman. I’m determined that I want to become a nurse, which my major is nursing. Why a nurse? All my life, I’ve always wanted to help people, especially babies. What made me decide to go for nursing was because ever since I started driving, I’d take my grandmother to all her doctor appointments and took care of her at home when she needed. Becoming a nurse isn’t easy, so my principles when I become a nurse are: 1) Although things get tough, always try to be happy when things turn out wrong.…
After working as a computer programmer for 13 years, I found myself without a job when I was laid off as jobs were outsourced to countries outside of the United States. I thought it would be relatively easy to find another job, but soon found the market was saturated with new graduates willing to do the same work for less money. I decided to get my CNA license and work in the medical field. I loved working with patients and decided to jump back into school and pursue a degree in nursing. Although there have been nights with little sleep, tears, and many meals of scrambled eggs, grilled cheese, or cold cereal, I have never regretted going back.…

Now, I may not be looking at nursing, but I am more inspired to continue my pursuit in the medical field whether it be through physical therapy or occupational therapy. Time will tell, but this has helped reassure me of my passion in working with medical professionals and with individuals that need care, I felt like a fish in water to say the least. This also allowed me to reflect on my own life and ponder, these individuals who were possibly dying, some of them were not complaining and they were actually quite thankful, so who am I to complain when I have so much? Such thoughts enter my mind, but I love it and I know that the medical field is where I will lay the foundations for my future…
Since childhood, I have always dreamed of becoming a nurse. Not only is it my career aspiration, but it is my passion to help people and be a bright component to their dark times. Upon entering UNC Charlotte as a freshman in the pre-nursing program, it has been both intimidating and difficult; however, I have learned a lot about myself and how to be successful in both college and my career.…
I believe that there is no other career that can help individuals on a personal level that can help as many lives as nursing does. Nursing will give me opportunities to showcase my organizational and quick decision-making skills, while maintaining compassion and a calming presence. My overall impression of a nurse thus far is a man or woman who knows what he or she has to do to make others feel better. Whether it be health wise or emotional wise, this person will do what they can to help. This man or woman is not above nor below any single individual. They are leaders, educators, advocates for their patients, and supporters. They are selfless in many ways and responsible for the decisions they make for their patients.…
I interviewed a nurse whose name is Rosetta Smoots and she has been in the field for over twenty years. She helped me to understand that being a nurse will not always be easy emotionally for me and that I will have a lot of bad days. She wanted to get into nursing for the same reason I do, to help people. This talk also helped me to understand that nursing school is very competitive, and that I will need to work harder than I ever have to be successful. She said as long as this is what I truly want then that will not be problem for me.…
"My life has been a large rollercoaster". This experience was one of the most saddest and happy moments. This was when ever I was pregnant. One day my back was hurting so bad that I wasn 't able to walk and was in so much pain that I just didnt know what I had till my brother told me to go tot he hospital and get checked but I was so scared of what I was going to have and once I got there they made me do a lot of test to check me. But once the result came back they told me "I need to do you a ultra sound" and i was shocked because I told the lady "Isn 't that for people that are pregnant" and she replied "yes" at that moment I was so lost and nervous and once they did the ultra sound I heard some noise that sounded like a heartbeat…
Conceived sometime between New Year’s Day and Valentine’s Day my mother, Angela Butler, went into labor with me on October 4th; a day before my birthday and two days before hers. My mother’s pregnancy was uneventful; she didn’t have any serious complications. During her pregnancy her need for several vitamins increased, because she was now sharing nutrients with me, her baby. Prenatal vitamins provided her with supplements for the deficiencies in her diet as well reduced the risk of some birth defects in me. My mother, in her first trimester suffered from severe nausea, she could hold anything down.…
Eventually everyone in life will be faced with a serious medical issue. It doesn’t matter if it is something life threatening or something that is more hindering to your lifestyle. For this essay, I will explain one of mine. I am thankful to say that I have been blessed with four gorgeous children, although it was not as simplistic as that. My first pregnancy was a breeze, I had a full term pregnancy and other than a cesarean section it was pretty uncomplicated.…
