Governments should stop the abuse or death of its citizens; in fact, the source states that it is their obligation to provide support to its citizens. The Industrial Revolution was a period during the late 1700s and early 1800s where there was massive economic growth in many countries in Europe, notably England. This rapid economic growth occurred during the time when classical liberalism was prominent. The government in England at that time was not very involved in protecting workers. Therefore, the workers, which made up the majority of the population, had terrible working conditions. Little children were forced to work extra hours and in cramped mines. Women would work for longer than men yet be paid less. Further, the health conditions of the workers were gruesome. Worse, the workers could not rebel against their employers, as they’d simply be fired. The government was doing very little to support these individuals.
