Methods Of Positive Reinforcement

The first method of positive reinforcement was a token economy system. In this system, the class would select the behaviors they believed should be rewarded. The students had to state these behaviors in positive manner, such as: walking quietly in the hall, turning in homework on time, listening to the teacher. The students were provided with 4 tickets at the beginning of the week. They would use these tickets to get admitted into the “golden ticket theatre (Friday centers, movie, playdough, etc.). What made this token economy a positive reinforcer to students, was the ability to earn tickets back after they had been lost. This ensure the likelihood that the positive behavior will occur again. Another method I used for positive reinforcement,

NAEYC standard five focuses on using content knowledge to build meaningful curriculum. This is the first time children are encountering academic discipline. These set foundations can help promote positive development in learning. Teachers use positive reinforcement when a child does good, then uses negative reinforcement when a child does bad. There are two categories of reinforcement; primary and secondary. Primary reinforcers are food, drinks, and things that provide happiness; they do not have to be learned. These primary enforcers are considered biological, or something that occurs naturally. Primary reinforcement is often referred to as unconditional reinforcement. Experiences and genetics can affect how reinforcing things are.…

Juno’s case deals with a myriad of issues of early abandonment, low human interaction, racism, bullying, and even linguistic problems. However, as focusing on the past are not the salient points for behavioral approach, our goal here is to teach Juno to eliminate unwanted behaviors and learn new behaviors that most possibly can overcome his social anxiety disorder. In a way, he learned those certain types of inappropriate behaviors, so it is possible to learn new behaviors to decrease his inappropriate behaviors and to increase his appropriate behaviors. As a matter of fact, if he continues with his inappropriate behavior regardless to inside or outside of school, it’s unacceptable and possibly might get worse. In addition, despite what went…

Structuralism, functionalism and psychodynamic theory contributes by showing up in schools and focused on a mental process in a more systematic and accurate manner. Both structuralism and functionalism are connected because functionalism can not work without structuralism because it sets the foundation of everything else. The five major perspectives are biological, psychodynamic, behavioral, cognitive and humanistic. Biological perspective looks at the way the nervous system, hormones and genetic make up affect the person's behavior.…

Positive reinforcement is the process of receiving acknowledgment, praise, or a desirable event resulting from a particular action or behavior. An example is getting a bonus after meeting goals or receiving recognition for going above and beyond. Positive reinforcements can also be viewed as incentives that encourage or motivate a person to continue or advance the behavior that is getting rewarded and or acknowledged. Positive reinforcement can be observed throughout the Kern County Crisis Hotline, as I have provided my co-workers with positive reinforcement and have observed positive reinforcement frequently during my applied experience. There is recognition given when a caller completes appropriate forms or is successful in assisting a…

In the past two decades, interest levels in using positive reinforcement to train animals has peaked and has resulted in more studies being released to support the fundamental ideas behind it. According to the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science, “Positive reinforcement training has also been shown to improve the social dynamics in primate social groups and, in some cases, to reduce abnormal behavior patterns. Positive reinforcement training increases voluntary cooperation, reduces fear, engages the animals’ ability to learn, and increases their control over their environments.”…

Punishment verses Rewards The use of positive reinforcement has a much better outcome than if punishment were to be used, This was the idea of B.F. Skinner, a well-known psychologist from the 1970’s who enlightened the world with his behavioral techniques. Skinner believed that the use of positive reinforcement helped to shape a beings behavior verses punishment. He proved his theory when he trained his rats to push a lever by frequent and scheduled rewards and birds to peck plates using his positive reinforcement ideas. He wanted to take his knowledge of positive reinforcement and apply it to mankind and to improve mankind’s behavior and learning technique.…

(Dufour and Marzano, pg. 12). For a positive school reform to take place, it is perhaps a better idea to leave the penalties and sanctions out of the reform. Better yet, a school reform plan should be placed in the hands of educators (and certain politicians) who are not simply creating a reform based on incentives. Also, it is certainly beneficial for each individual school leadership team to consider what is best for their particular school, and student success, and do these things because they matter. To add to his idea of incentives, Daniel Pink discusses the idea of intrinsic motivation as he ends his…

Reinforcement is meant to increase a behavior. Therefore, positive reinforcement is presenting an appealing scenario immediately after a behavior in order to increase the likelihood of its reoccurrence. An example of this would be giving some ice cream to a child after they put their dishes in the sink without being asked. Negative reinforcement is taking away an unappealing scenario immediately after a behavior in order to increase the likelihood of its reoccurrence. An example of this type of reinforcement would be a student not having to complete a homework assignment after earning a perfect score on a quiz covering the same material.…

Therefore, the teacher must keep in mind the negative behavior that cannot occur the same time as the positive behavior. One example of finding the incompatibility of behavior is sitting at the desk vs. wandering in the classroom. When the student is reinforced of the positive behavior they are supposed to be doing at the given time, they will have a positive behavior to act upon replacing the negative behavior. It is also important to know the student and take notes of the types of reinforcement inadvertently received when ding the problem behavior. Hence, it is like trial and error to figuring out what kind of reinforcement would work best for the student to achieve the desired…

Positive Reinforcement happens in a classroom when the class is having a pizza party because no one had missed class. A negative reinforcement happens with an escape or active avoidance. Respectfully, the class is not doing their homework to escape study or the teacher can hold a study group for the class, to avoid failing. A positive punishment in the classroom happens when a teacher assigns more test questions because phones were out during lecture. Lastly, negative punishment in the classroom can happen when the teacher holds the class from recess for 10…

Reinforcement Theory Katie LeBlanc Psychology of Personality B. F. Skinner believed in behavioristic theories. When learning about his behaviorist theories, the person gets a better understanding of the role in learning about the development of personality. Skinner’s theories were that conditions and situations affect the learning of a behavior. Skinner ultimately defines personality with terms of behavior, both positive and negative. So one would have to wonder if reinforcements have the same power to control human behaviors the same way they can control a laboratory pig or house pet like a dog.…

Cocaine as with many of illicit drugs, can be backed a theory regarding why users experiment leading to use, abuse, and may become addicted. My theory behind drug usage, in this case, cocaine, is backed behind the classical theory biological instinct – that being a psychological theory of reinforcement. It is important to understand what is meant by reinforcement theory – which can be split into two categories. The first, being positive reinforcement. Positive reinforcement “occurs when the individual receives a pleasurable sensation and, because of this, is motivated to repeat what caused it” (147, Theories of Drug use).…
