Paper On Positive Reinforcement

Positive reinforcement is the process of receiving acknowledgment, praise, or a desirable event resulting from a particular action or behavior. An example is getting a bonus after meeting goals or receiving recognition for going above and beyond. Positive reinforcements can also be viewed as incentives that encourage or motivate a person to continue or advance the behavior that is getting rewarded and or acknowledged. Positive reinforcement can be observed throughout the Kern County Crisis Hotline, as I have provided my co-workers with positive reinforcement and have observed positive reinforcement frequently during my applied experience.

A great example I can share from work is: A patient I work with has displayed undesirable behaviors because she wanted a soda on command. A plan was put in place to decrease the patient's undesirable behaviors and to reward the patient with a soda over time if the patient waits in intervals starting with 15 minutes then changed to 30 minutes and then to a set time every day. Since a plan to teach patience has been implemented into her treatment plan, her behavior to be patient for a soda has increased tremendously her undesirable behaviors have decreased. This was considered a positive reinforcement for this patient and her goal was exceeded to patiently wait for a soda.…

After considering how much my personality has evolved over the years, I’ve come to the conclusion that there are several instances where reinforcements and punishments were the contributing factor for these changes. For instance, when I was younger I did very well in school, usually making the A-honor roll. In order to strengthen this behavior, my dad implemented a positive reinforcement of 20 dollars for every class that I passed with an A. Although this positive reinforcement was only valid until I graduated high school, I continued to do well in school since I had already become so accustomed to it. Despite the success that I had in school, there were some undesirable traits that I exhibited when communicating with other individuals. For…

Since I will be teaching in an inclusion classroom I think the theory that is most effective would be behavioral learning. Slavin states that behavior changes according to immediate consequences, be it positive reinforcement or negative consequences (Slavin 2015 p103). I currently have a 10 week old puppy who I am training using behavioral learning strategies. Even though children are more complex than puppies the principles are the same.…

Two days after the shooting, I assembled a group of friends to create “Colorado Strength Ribbons.” The reason I choose this topic to write about is because before this class, I still looked back and wondered as to why I was motivated go as far as I did to create this project. I saw no reward, but I strived to continue pushing forward.…
