Medical Marijuana a Benefit or a Disadvantage?
Have you ever wondered why medical marijuana has not yet been legalized? In our society today, many people come across at least a variety of cannabis smokers in their lives that they refer to as “stoners” or “potheads”. With many different views on the drug that is so commonly known around the world, in America it has become a topic of political discussion. Whether it should of course be legalized due to the popularity of the drug or be kept as illegal because of the way some people feel about it. In this research, I will be talking about the reasons why the drug should be legalized and why people have such a bad point of view about it. For instance, in the article “Medical Marijuana” by Anne Harding(www.webmd.com) it states how doctors normally prescribe the drug to people having problems with muscle spasms,nausea from cancer chemotherapy, seizures, etc. It can be used to treat diseases due to the fact that it contains some of the chemicals that our own bodies have that affect pain, inflammation, and many other processes.Some of the chemicals are even known to help our digestive system and to even fight off anything heading our way. We trust doctors with our lives on a daily basis, so why can’t we trust them when it comes to weed? I mean it is called Medical Marijuana for a …show more content…
A lot of conservatives and political standing people hate the commonly known drug and therefore try their hardest to make it difficult to legalize. Their anger towards the drug comes from the fact that it’s illegal, false advertising,the minimal chance of disease,the theory that it leads to trying more harmful drugs,and the bad reputation one will get for it. Society has put a label on the marijuana smokers in modern time as bad people with bad intentions when in reality 44% of Americans say they have tried the drug while about one in 10 say they currently smoke it.
