Mcgonigal How To Make Stress You Friend Analysis

Cheri-
Great post! I have always viewed stress negatively too, but after McGonigal’s speech my negative thoughts sure changed. When seeing the title of the McGonigal’s video, “How to make stress you friend,” I thought to myself how is that possible? She suggests, positive stress response prepares us for challenges, and the way we deal with stress will determine its effect towards our health. As you have mentioned, taking her suggestions and reconsider how you are dealing with stress is an absolute wise choice. I loved your comment that our attitude greatly impacts our destiny and I couldn’t agree more with this statement. Your willingness to want to help others truly shines.
Thanks for sharing,
Amanda

For this journal entry, I picked a video from Playlist 2 called, “How to make stress your friend.” I chose this video because I thought it was relatable since I am now a college student who experiences stress on a daily basis. I thought that watching this video could give me some insight on how to handle stressful situations and maybe give me some positive encouragement and/or motivation. This speech was given by Kelly McGonigal who starts off her speech by stating that she has a confession to make. Before stating her confession, she asks the audience who all experiences stress, whether it is high levels or stress of moderate levels of stress.…

Our book states “signs and symptoms of burnout include turnovers, absenteeism, lower productivity and psychological problems” (James, 2008, p. 530).…

I have never put much thought into stress, but as time went on I realized how stress genuinely decide our future. There were various points I was interested in, but there are three main points I personally found intriguing: stress can sometimes be manipulated to a greater extent, the amount of stress varies depending on what rank you are associated with in a society, and also how stress can extensively affect a person’s health. Stress can sometimes be manipulated to a greater extent.…

In society today, nearly millions of people suffer from stress everyday. Stress is a natural part of life. The expressions are familiar to us, “I’m stressed out,” “I’m under too much stress,” or “Work is one big stress.” Stress is hard to define because it means different things to different people; however, it’s clear that most stress is a negative feeling rather than a positive feeling. While some people believe stress can be healthy, it can be argued that excessive stress is unbearable because stress can lead to depression, anxiety disorder, and suicide.…

As said in the journal of traditional medicine society, “feeling annoyed, overwhelmed, upset, excited or threatened determines what we can do about it. If we decide that the demands of a situation outweigh our coping skills, we are likely to unconsciously label it stressful.”…

I want to focus this final Metacognitive Response Assignment on the idea of creating our own stress; if found this to be a new, but very intriguing idea that I had not previously thought about. As I read the responses of others, specifically those of Lance Rose, Stevie Brown, Shelby Heighton, Jenna Crawford, and John Bender my mind was expanded on this new concept. When I first formed my opinion about the idea of creating my own stress, I evaluated the stress in my life and how my own actions could have caused it in some way; I also tried to objectively look at the lives of the people around me to determine if perhaps they too had made choices that somehow could have caused some stress. However, as I read through my peers responses I realized…
