"Our matriarchs had an interesting advantage over today 's western women. Matriarchs didn 't begin their marriage with love. Instead they were taught how to love. They entered marriage with an earnest determination to grow a love that would sustain their marriage for a life-time" (Zenhabe). Love is a universal virtue found in the sacred bond of marriage. Arranged marriage is a unique practice that changes the perspective of marriage from a bond that blossoms from love to a seed that uses love to blossom. Arranged marriages are dwindling in numbers as society evolves, but there are still many parts of the world holding firm to the tradition. Although success cannot be quantified in the sacred sacrament of marriage, one can gain insights into its effectiveness through exploring the divorce rate in South Asian countries, the way their society treats women, and their fulfillment in marriage.

South Asia differs from westernized countries with respect to divorce. Among these differences are their divorce rates.The divorce rate in South Asia is indisputably low in comparison to western countries.Countries such as France and the United States have divorce rates of over 50%; however, South Asian countries such as India and Sri Lanka both have divorce rates of less than 1% ("Statistic"). The low divorce rates in South Asia is attributed to arranged marriage, a popular practice in the region that entails the parents selecting partners for their children ("Arranged Marriage"). To…
