Natural of marriage has become a hot debate in America in the past two decades. There are those who agree that same-sex couple has a right to get marriage and those who disagree with it, those who dissent believe that same-sex marriage is wrong due to the religion and the laws. Through “Sacred Rite or Civil Right?” written by Howard Moody, was published in July 5, 2004 in the issue of the nation. Moody writes this article to defense traditional marriage by using chronological organization method, present example situation, asking and answering questions, the reliable sources, use statistics, and tone. Why some gay or lesbian couples want to be married? He answers his question by giving a reason that “most gay or lesbians were born of married parents, raised in a family of siblings” (Moody, 2015, p. 363) and they would like to have a religion ceremony to seal their relationship as same as they parents or sibling. As seen, the author gives enough information to the reader by using simply words and sentence. So, the readers can envisions about the real situation that may happens to same-sex couples in the past.
Furthermore, the author use speeches from the well know people who believe in the same thing with him as the examples on his article such as; A speech of a former president George W. Bush when he speaking as a Christian, and saint Paul’s advice that said, “ It’s better not to marry” on the Magna Carta of the single person passage. The author usually adds his thought or his believe to the article after presenting the examples from famous people.
