What exactly is love? Love can leave you feeling powerless, and is almost impossible to stop. While in the Hunger Games the tributes should be concentrating on surviving. It was important for Katniss to stay focused on her goal and her love for Peeta got in the way of that. Katniss isn’t fully aware of her feelings for Peeta and she doesn’t necessarily like what she does feel. In a way love is confusing, but in the end is sometimes worth it.
Love isn’t always based off of your romantic compatibility, it’s based off things that are felt like feelings of security and stability. When Gale asked Katniss to run away with him and she replied with “I don’t know how to respond, the idea is so preposterous” it shows that Katniss cares about her security over his love. Sometimes it just happens. “You’re alive” she says when she sees Peeta, then puts her hands on her cheeks trying to suppress her smile, a classic sign of infatuation. Katniss shouldn’t be falling in love with someone when there’s a chance she could die, which shows how unpredictable love is. At one point Peeta holds Katniss and she mentions that “no one else's arms have made me feel this safe”. Katniss wouldn’t let just anyone hold her, because she doesn’t trust just anyone, especially since no one has held her that way since her father's death. Katniss feels safe with Peeta and it shows her love for him.
In a nutshell Katniss managed to fall in love with someone when they both could’ve died. She fell in love when it was suppose to be an act. She fell in love when she ‘loved” someone else. Love is complicated and it’s something we all need. Tributes most likely needed more love when they were in fact staring death in the face. Katniss is human and she fell for the person that was there, the person that made her feel safe. Love is made for people that can handle it’s power and Katniss is most definitely
