Persuasive Essay On The Hunger Games

In a matter of minutes, what could have been a regular game became something bigger. In The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins the recognition of love started it all. The Capitol will use this information wisely. With a snap of a finger the games can be changed. Then just like that they can be changed again. After all, using the “star crossed lovers” will ensure some entertainment. The games are changing, becoming something new. Trouble is coming, something we can't undo. It all started, a change in the games, in just a few sentences. From the interview where Peet's let it all go. “Well there is this one girl. I’ve had a crush on for as long as I can remember...I don’t think it's going to work out, winning...won't help in my case...because...because...she came here with me.” (9.130) These words I believe triggered something in The Capitol, something with the Gamemakers. This idea of love could be the start of something new and big. The citizens of The Capitol are beside themselves and want to do anything to save the lovers, even if that means no games. This year, the 74th Hunger Games there was a change. The text says “Two tributes can win this year...If they're from the same district.” (18.244) This quote gave Katniss hope. After all, she immediately called out for Peeta. During the reading I remember thinking if they did that just for the case of the “star crossed lovers.” Some of the questions I asked myself are, Why the 74th games?
