Pilates is named after Joseph Pilates. Joseph Pilates was born on December 9, 1883 in Monchengladbach, Germany. He was a sickly child who got bullied and he became determined to make himself stronger and healthier. He invented Pilates as a new method to work out and in the early years of the last century. Pilates primarily focus is on improving litheness, strength, and body mindfulness, without necessarily having to work out at the gym and lift weights. Pilates is primary a resistance exercise, it’s not Aerobic because it helps part your body such as the spinal column, abdomen, pelvis, hips, the transverse abdominis. Pilates is beneficial to us because it better-quality flexibility, intensifies muscle strength and tone, it even out your strength on both sides of your body, and improves your posture.
During my Pilate’s class this semester I felt a positive change in my body. Frist, I lost a lot of weight from exercising in class every week. Also, it helped release any tension in my body because I learn to stretch and move around. The most valuable lessons I learned in class is the 5 dos and don’ts workout. The two workouts that were beneficial to me were the standing and lifting because firstly, I would always stand improperly due to my previous broken ankle injury. I have a habit of leaning on one side, which caused my posture to be sore.
