T: Throughout The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, Darry changes from being protective and appreciative, to frustrated and ignorant after the deaths of Johnny and Dally. E: Darry is known as being very protective, sacrificing anything to keep the gang together. However, Darry can get a little too protective. When Ponyboy was jumped Darry did a little too much to make sure he was okay. “Darry’s always rough with me without meaning to be. ‘I'm okay. Quit shaking me, Darry, I’m okay’” X: Although this is a life or death situation, Darry does more than enough to ensure Pony is okay. Without a doubt, if Darry isn’t as resilient with Ponyboy, he wouldn’t use a bottle to scare away the socs later in the book. As a result, Ponyboy is still an avid student
