That is to say, this stress builds up on Darry and gets him to be so angry at Ponyboy, that he resorts to violence. “Darry wheeled around and slapped me so hard that it knocked me against the door” (50). This later contributes to Ponyboy running away from his home. Likewise, when Pony is gone with Johnny are on the run. In the book it’s hinted when Dally tells Pony, that his brothers are worrying about them deeply.
