According to Irpate (2013) he quotes from Ivancevich and Donnelly (1968) that “Job satisfaction is the favourable viewpoint of the worker toward the work role, he present by occupies.” Irpate (2013) also quotes a few other definitions of job satisfaction such as, Job satisfaction is simply how people feel about their jobs and different aspects of job (Spector, 1997). It is an attitudinal (and affective) response to one’s job (McCormick and Ilgen, 1989). And Hackman and Oldham (1980), “Job satisfaction refers to the individual’s attitude towards specific facts of work.” Similarly Traynor and Wade (1993) quotes the definition of job satisfaction according to Bush (1988) as,

In analysing job satisfaction, this population had to be considered. Hence, job satisfaction, for the purpose of this study, is defined as all the features of the employment experience that provides contentment and positive rewards within the sphere of the workplace. It is the individual’s reaction to the job experience. To capture the facets job experience, six facets of the job experience will be targeted. This is similar to the psychometric test done by Tatsuse & Sekine (2011). Like the 2011 test developed by Tatsuse & Sekine, the test developed covers personal satisfaction, satisfaction with workload, satisfaction with professional support, satisfaction with pay, satisfaction with prospects and satisfaction with the work environment. He postulated that high turnovers and absenteeism can lead to a reduction in teamwork which he found led to lower job satisfaction. Also support and respect from colleages and supervisors are good measures for job satisfaction (Ellenbecker & Byleckie, 2005).
Satisfaction with pay Income is typically found to be positively correlated with overall job satisfaction (Blanchflower, Oswald and Warr, 1993, quoted by Clark, 1998). Hence, the amount of money left back after tax that is carried home would affect how satisfied one is with their job. Furthermore, one is more satisfied with their job when one believes one is fairly paid for the hours one works and that one’s pay should reflect one’s rank (Clarke, 1998).
Satisfaction with prospects Clarke (1998) found that one’s perceived chance for promotion, and continued employment can influence job satisfaction, especially in women. The threat of being laid off could cause persons to feel uncomfortable thinking about possibilities for getting another job. Thus, perceived job security and work prospects are important for job
