What Makes it American? Have you ever purchased something based off the name of the product? Jack in the box is an American fast-food restaurant. The first “Jack in the Box opened in 1951 and expanded to the East and Midwest under ownership of Ralston Purina Co.”(Kramer) They have “more than 2,200 quick-serve restaurants in 21 states and Guam” (Jackintheboxinc) making Jack in the box one of the leading fast-food chains in the nation. Since Jack in the box acknowledges that customers like to customize their food order, they do not make the food items until a customer orders it, making it fresh. Jack in the Box has made a combo meal called the “All American Jack Combo”. This combo meal includes a burger, french fries, and a soft drink for $4.99. The advertisement shows the combo meal and in the back of the combo meal, there is a picture of an Bald eagle and the Jack in the box mascot. The Jack in the box mascot is known to always be wearing a yellow cone shaped hat. This advertisement added the same cone shaped hat on the Bald eagle. As a consumer, seeing the concept of America being used makes it more appealing. This advertisement is targeting mainly people living in the United States. The Bald eagle on the advertisement represents the idea of America. When the word eagle comes up, there is a high probability that a person will think of America as well. The Bald eagle is the emblem of the United States of America. This is because the eagle is often seen being associated with American related items. Most commonly know is on the back of an American quarter, there is a picture of an Bald eagle. Although this advertisement is mainly targeting Americans, any person can purchase this meal as well. As long as a person enjoys eating this combo meal, it does not mean that they are not allowed to purchase this combo
