When people go to the hospital they are expecting to be given the best treatment with good service quality. Since patients want to feel safe in hospital environments, they need organizations to be involved in the investigation of service quality. The service quality patients are given is important because when patients attend the hospital or clinic they want to feel safe. Another thing a patient expects when he or she goes into hospitals is that he or she will be treated fairly and that he or she will come out feeling better, not worse. Patients also want to make sure that the personnel that is taking care of them has been well trained and certified. Also, the Joint Commission was founded in 1951 and this organization certifies health care organizations and programs in the United States. The organizations observed under the Joint commission are hospitals, home health care, laboratory, nursing care centers, ambulatory and office based surgery, and more. Since the JCAHO organization is highly trusted by patients, this certified organization is highly recognized because it stands as a symbol of quality and that is reflected because of the commitment of meeting performance standards. The mission of this organization is to interminably keep improving health care for the public. When the surveyors show up to conduct the test, the surveyors select patients randomly and use their medical record in order to evaluate the health care organizations’ compliance. Surveyors trace a patient’s experience when he or she attended that health care organization. The surveyors not only seek the patient’s for information of the health care organization’s function, but they also talk to doctors, nurses, and other staff who may have interacted with the patient at the time of service. Another thing surveyor do is that they observe doctor and nurses when they provide care. By visually seeing how medical care providers give service to their patients, surveyors can get a general idea of the function of the health care organization. Another thing a surveyor does is that they talk to patients and that also helps the Joint Commissions see what the overall point of view is for the patients. Patients are able to give feedback as to where health care organizations need improvement, so this is helpful when hospitals are trying to find the weakness in an organization. Last but not least, when health care organizations are accredited, they must continuously perform activities that will improve health care quality.
