The title of my article is “Is schizophrenia a disorder of the immune system?” (Pouget, et al. 2016) which I found on sciencedaily.com. I selected this article because as a psychology major I always knew of Schizophrenia being a serious disorder that affects how one thinks, acts and feels. I knew that Schizophrenia can be linked to genetics, and the most apparent, an abnormality in the brain. It caught my attention to see that immune system can be linked to Schizophrenia in such a way. It amazed me to know that the body’s defense against disease-causing microbes can relate to the behavior associated with Schizophrenia. I wanted to learn the cause and effect of having a poor immune system that could possibly lead to the chronic mental disorder. The article is about how immune disturbances in the immune system can disturb the brain, hence, provoke Schizophrenia. It does so by the indication of immune diseases which are infection and inflammation. It also aimed to explain that the environmental risk factors activate an immune response. There are patterns in the classic autoimmune disorders, however, the patterns in Schizophrenia are not the same. Schizophrenia has its own pattern that corresponded to the symptoms of having this disorder.
Schizophrenia is a chronic, severe mental disorder that affects how a person can think, feel and act. Most individuals with schizophrenia lose touch with reality. They have a hard time perceiving what is real and what is imaginary. The…
