One of the biggest trends that exist today is healthy eating and staying fit. In fact, it has become more of a lifestyle or religion for millions of people around the world. For those who devote their social media pages only for the purpose of showing workouts, dieting, recipes for new and healthier food while selling and promoting their products. Celebrities all day promote how one can get skinny by just drinking detox teas, and detox water. People all day are consumed with this idea of how it is to be healthy to all look a certain way. To only eat low calorie foods, cut out gluten, dairy, fast foods and everything bad for one person, due to the fact it causes disease like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Most importantly is the obesity fact in America, it is the number one leading cause of death. According to Mary Maxfield, writer of “Food as Thought: Resisting the Moralization of Eating” and Michael Pollan, author of “Escape from the Western Diet” both are suggesting their points of view towards the idea of healthy dieting and eating in the United States and tell us about their solution to solve these problems of what is actually healthy. Maxfield thinks that the American culture has much impact on people’s healthy eating patterns. Although, Pollan says that he puts blame on the Western diet, for it’s nutritionism and scientific hypothesis on the culture.
