The internet has made life a whole lot easier by making information more accessible to people and by creating connections among different people all over the world. The benefits of having internet access are so many such that in this day and age people cannot imagine living without some form of internet connection. This has led to internet addiction characterized by its excessive use. Internet addiction is a condition that refers to the excessive use of internet that interferes with the day-to-day life of an individual. The condition is now commonly known as problematic internet use, compulsive internet use, problematic computer use, internet overuse or I-Disorder and is believed to mostly affect teenagers more than any other group of people.
Teenagers and youth are expected to be busy developing their career or developing normal, deep connections, as well as interpersonal skills. Internet addiction seems this expectation as most of the teens spend their time doing what would best be termed as wastage of time. The obvious answer to this inquiry would be for social connection and schoolwork. However, the online world serves another unexpected need for some teenagers as it serves as social sanctuary of some sort and teenagers share too much information on social media without realizing that the permanence of the information posted online can be a big problem for them.
