He depends on his loved ones to fulfill his everyday needs. His mother is his prime caregiver. She is the one who takes care of all his hygiene, meals, medical, and social needs. However, his mother suffers from alcoholism and will typically not able to fully care for Chris. His birth father has never been involved in his life, but his stepfather has been actively involved. His stepfather contributes financial and emotional support. Chris’s siblings are as involved and helpful as they can be.
After Graduation, Chris expressed how he wanted to move out and start the growing up process. The service coordinators have been working for a year to get him placed in a home that he enjoys. Chris would move into an Intermediate Care Facilities (ICF) where he would receive 24 hour nursing care and amenities that are desirable for any future resident.
In order to learn more about Chris, an individual must spend time with him. Because he is non-verbal and non-movement you have to learn and adapt to Chris’s body language, eye movement, smiles, and laughs. This is how he communicates to others. Chris’s personality really blooms when he is the center of attention. He likes one-on-one social interaction. When he is in a small group he becomes a jokester, and a comedian.
