Chris is an outsider in a society where his personality and thinking is frowned upon by many due to his autism. He realizes the importance of the smallest things in life and society, and his unique perspective shines light on the ideas many others don’t think about. Christopher has a strong sense of himself which he uses to question the conflicts. For example, as Christopher is being accompanied by an officer to London, he observes human nature and the thinking most have. He mentions how “people who believe in God think God has put human beings on the earth because they think human beings are the best animal, but human beings are just an animal and they will evolve into another animal.” This isn’t something that many think about in society regularly, but as Christopher is an outsider, he notices the unnoticed. This makes him valuable to the people around him because it allows his bold insight to spread and ideas to be introduced. Ender was the change in the system and did not succumb from the pressure given by others to be the same as everybody, exemplifying Orson Scott Card’s idea of a strong sense of self.
