When I first enrolled for the English 100 class, I was very scared on how this class would go for me. I was not confident in my writing and I didn’t think my writing would meet the standards of my professor, Dr. Kearns. In the past, my writing pieces never rewarded me with an A grade and I was often surprised when I received a B. I came into this class thinking that I was going to barely pass and I was ok with it at the time. Because of Dr. Kearns and his teaching abilities, I feel so much more confident in my writing. I feel like I am writing at a college level now and I 'm not making the mistakes I made in the past. I take writing more serious and put a lot more effort into my pieces then I have ever done before. If I didn’t enroll in this …show more content…
Kearns has thought me to the class. Dr. Kearns class has thought me many different writing strategies, one being to practice writing everyday. You shouldn’t begin writing and then forget about it for days. Even if you have writers block you should look at your writing piece and finds ways you should improve it. You could go through and proof read it or add in material that you may have forgotten before. I have learned that the more attention you give your writing piece, the better outcome you get. Dr. Kearns has also thought me to embrace criticism. When he tells us to change something in our paper he isn 't being rude, he is genuinely trying to make our writing better. Criticism can not only make us a better person but also a better writer and I think that is something that Dr. Kearns made extremely clear. Criticism makes your writing stronger and without it hard to improve it. If a writer thinks that they 're always right but doesn’t receive feedback from someone else, how do they know for sure that they are right? Criticism also forces you to think about your writing. Constructive criticism can guide you away from bad writing habits and put you on the path towards good ones. I have learned through Dr. Kearns teachings that you should always look at your writing in different perspectives. No matter how deeply you are involved in your writing, you should always take a …show more content…

My first semester of college has been such a major change from high school because Professor Collins was very detailed about what needs to be fixed and how to fix it. While I was in high school, my English teacher did not do a very good job at giving feedback. Also, having my classmates give ideas on what to write about always played a big part in writing my final draft. I also thought it was a crazy idea when Professor Collins told me that I should read my paper out loud but now I do it for every paper and will continue to do it. My biggest regret this semester was not going to the writing center more and waiting last minute to do my papers.…

Before I would not have a process on how to write an essay I would just do it and turn it in thinking it was great how it is but in writing an essay it is never finalize as I learned from Dr. Moreno because there is so much more that can be done. As a result, my writing has improved so much since part A because I learned to have a process for writing such as others editing my work and brainstorming. My writing still needs work because I still have trouble with academic vocabulary that I will expand on soon. In the future for my writing I would love to see it better than it is now because it is the one thing that is going to be used for the rest of my life. Overall, this class taught me so much such as research, conducting data, and blogs.…

After thinking, I decided to take the normal college writing course and learn what native speakers learn. Frankly, I was a little bit concerned at the beginning because I didn 't know the level of proficiency needed and I was afraid I would end up lowering my GPA, however, I insisted on my decision. The first essay we had to write was a bit of challenge for me. I spend hours working on it, I asked for my teacher 's help and I went the writing center…

Walking out of the classroom on the first day of school after College Prep Writing I knew that the class would be difficult and teach me a lot about my writing. I still need to further my progress on grammar and organizational skills to make my writing flow better and punctuation. Just about all the papers that were assigned to me this semester had almost the same comments which were fixing the little things like punctuation. However, the writing that I must find satisfying are narrative essays because I think that is what I am best at, being one with a pen in paper is what I would say being an artist is all about. Before I would have never said my essays were art but now I truly believe that they are not because I wrote them and they got a good score but because I told my story and did not have to sugar code it for anyone, I expressed myself and put myself for everyone to see. It wasn 't because I wanted to know what they thought of my work but more because I wanted me to think of my work not just confined to myself by out there for everyone to know it 's okay to express yourself.…

In the beginning of the semester I entered class as a novice student. I knew my writing was okay, but I wanted it to get better. I feel as though writing is the only way I can make people sit and listen to what I have to say. However If they are unable to fully grasp my ideas or emotions in my words then really I am just as silenced as I am when I speak. Coming into class I knew I had a way I was used to writing but I did not know if my writing was truly effective.…
