Importance Of Life Skills Essay
Their attributes are necessary for effective performance; in education and in other life situations, such as work, family, and community involvement. Throughout my experience as a social worker, coach, and workshop leader, I have observed people and the effects that their personal interactions and communication skills have had on others.
No matter where you are in the “Mindset Change 101,” certain skills may be more important to you than others. However, mastering the ten core life skills enclosed in this chapter will give you the courage to stand apart. Together, the ten core skills mentioned will help you build self-esteem, self-worth, and nurture emotional, social, and spiritual development.
Core Life Skills
1. SELF-AWARENESS: Self-awareness becomes intertwined into the fabric of who you are and surfaces at different points in time depending upon the situation. This skill helps you to become more familiar of your makeup, actions, habits, emotional reactions, inspirations, and thought processes. Use this process to create a systematic way to tackle problems:
Define the problem: Determine the root causes of your problem. Identify who is involved and determine set outcomes of the situation.
Generate alternatives: Brainstorm alone or with others to generate as many possible ways of responding to your problem.
Evaluate and select alternatives: Choose a different solution or seek help, if your results are not satisfactory.
Implement solutions: Once you arrive at a solution, implement it and monitor the results to make sure that your issue is actually resolved.
9 & 10. CREATIVE AND CRITICAL THINKING: These skills can be used together or independent of one another, depending on context and purpose. Creative thinkers are typically viewed as out-of-the-box thinkers. They search for new connections by generating different, original, and varied possibilities. In contrast, critical thinkers are typically viewed as serious-minded, analytical, and objective. They examine flaws to develop the most promising possibilities. Over time you will learn when to appropriately apply creative and critical thinking skills to help you address problems, opportunities, and/or
