This solution requires us to form a class that equips graduating seniors with the skills they need to make it on their own. This class would be offered as an elective to students during their senior year of high school. Since it would take place during school hours, there would not be a scheduling conflict. It would provide graduates with a smooth transition from high school to college. The class would cover financial math, cooking, cleaning, and budgeting. Students would begin learning in a formal classroom setting, but, once they received the information, they would be taught to apply it. For example, when teaching the process of doing laundry, the educator would present step by step instructions in order for students to take notes; then, students would be expected to actually do laundry. First and foremost, it would require approval from school boards. If the class were approved, it would then need a teacher. Someone would have to be willing to sacrifice their time to support this worthy cause. Finally, as with any class, there would need to be supplies. While this class seems to need an exhaustive amount of materials, most can be purchased by the students. As lessons vary, students would bring the supplies needed for the particular subject, for example : laundry detergent, cooking ingredients, check books, etc. In reference to the machinery needed, most schools have washing machines and stoves in their Home Economics cottage.
