An accountant can be described as someone who reviews the financial information for a client or business. Their job is to make sure that the numbers are correct and payments are made on time. Some of the duties of an accountant are to help lower costs, create budgets, keep track of financial records, set up tax returns, make sure taxes are paid on time, and so many other tasks (U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015). After all of the research and talking to someone in the field I will be discussing job duties and daily life of accountants, their salary and job openings, and skills and education needed. The average pay for accountants varies based on where you live but according to the BLS, “the median annual salary for an accountant was $65,940 in 2014” (U.S News & World Report). Some of the cities that the average will most likely be higher are New York City, San Jose, or Salinas (U.S News & World Report, ) The lady who I interviewed told me that it is not necessarily hard to find an accounting job but there is a lot of hard work and dedication that goes into getting and keeping that job. She said that she met with someone a while ago who assisted her in finding her job and that there are people who will be able to help me once I graduate (D. I read a statistic that said, “Employment of accountants and auditors is projected to grow 11 percent from 2014 to 2024, faster than the average for all occupations” (U.S Bureau of Labor …show more content…
Also, if someone is looking to receive a higher pay or get a better job it is highly recommended that they become a CPA (Study.com). Some of the skills that my interviewee said are important when going into accounting is being organized, detail oriented, good communication skills, and being friendly. A skill that is especially important to have is being able to focus. There are a lot of numbers they work with and it is important to not get distracted because if someone were to mess up just one number it will turn into a domino effect. She added that many people believe accountants spend much of their time in an office but that is not totally true.
