I had the “save the world” mentality and bravado of a young business professional. The piece of the world being saved was a five county area in Northeast Nebraska and Southeast South Dakota. I recently gained a newly created Chief Financial Officer position at a community health clinic. For years, it had been my goal to combine my skills in finance and passion for helping others.
I remember the moment in the position when I began forming a new goal. I attended a regional healthcare conference in Denver to learn changes in healthcare regulations. I vividly remember the commencement of the conference. There was an elongated table of presenters in front of the attendees. Since acting as a Chief Financial Officer, I have returned to the life of an auditor traveling to a variety of communities throughout the country auditing nonprofits and governments. Even though I have held the job of an auditor previously, it seems different. My clients appreciate how I relate to their daily struggles. Consequently, they appear more willing to share information and discuss their business or life in general. Realizing the importance of human aspects in business through my experiences has aided me in greater ways than a course could teach.
These realizations and experiences have played a role in my decision to pursue a law degree. A law degree, coupled with existing knowledge, would allow me to have a greater impact in people’s lives, as well as allow for further professional and personal growth. Fields of study, which I find interesting, are business law and healthcare law, with healthcare law being an area where I have developed strong opinions (issues with Medicaid expansion; problematic Medicare reimbursements to

Law and the Interest that it Holds on People Being able to study the law has always been an interest of mine because there are so many different directions that it can take. People defending a certain law can win but so can a person that is trying to change a tradition, and thus can change the whole way the system works and is looked at by U.S citizens and that includes the rest of the world. I like knowing that the U.S has the power to make laws in our own country and cause and effect somewhere else, which can benefit people from those places as to gain more rights than what they had before. Many of the cases that have been discussed in class, I had at one point hear or read about them. However, I had not been able to go into much detail…
